Dear Colleague, |
June 2018 |
A
hearty welcome to the warm weather ahead! Summer is always a time to relax,
recharge and spend time with family and friends. With the on-going demands
everyone faces daily at work and in life, making the investment in our own
health and wellness is vital. The connection between our physical, mental and
emotional well-being cannot be overstated as a key foundational factor in
personal and professional fulfillment. My daughter, Jillian, has inspired me in
this area and I've learned a lot from her as she is finishing her studies as a
Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian. I wrote a blog a while back,
"Manage Your Body and Mind for a Better Career" if
you'd like to read more as you plan some down time this summer. Organizations
recognize this need and are offering benefits and initiatives that engage and
empower employees to manage their health and wellness. In fact, often it is
incorporated within their leadership development and management development
programs which ensures it is embedded within the culture of the organization.
Many of the leadership and management development programs I have created for
my clients include a component on emotional intelligence, which also tends to
be an area of focus for executive coaching. Please visit my
leadership development and
management development pages to see more.
In
May, I attended the Association of Talent Development International Conference
in San Diego where the keynote speaker was President Obama. It was
amazing to have the opportunity to hear a former president talk about his
experiences. He emphasized the importance of developing talent and enabling
them to tap into their best self. Many of his stories highlighted the
importance of values and the role they play in every aspect of our lives as
well as our behaviors, decisions and actions. I was also thrilled to be a
speaker at the conference and to have my book, 'Personal Branding and
Marketing Yourself', sold in their bookstore. The topic of my
presentation was Emotional Intelligence as a Leadership
Predictor. The audience included attendees from all over the world. It
was a fabulous experience and opportunity. Catch the 'Big Ideas at ATD 2018'
Video.
Please
take a moment to read and/or share some other recent blogs and events below. I
had the pleasure of facilitating a book club discussion on my book for New
Paths - Bridging Armenian Women, as well as presenting on the same topic
for Women, Wine and Wall Street, and writing a two-part blog for my alma
mater, Northeastern University (see more below) on the topic of 'personal
branding'. I look forward to hearing from you and your recent updates!
Best
Regards,
Rita Balian
